Best time to visit Maldives?
The best time to visit the Maldives is between December and March, during the hot season but it is also the high season. You will have a great weather most of time with almost no chance of rain. The very high season in term of prices is January.
However, you can also visit the Maldives boulder season to find better deals, in November or April. But we don’t recommend you going there offseason because it’s raining a lot. I mean, really a lot! So you should really avoid going there between June and September.
How are composed the Maldives?
So the islands of the Maldives are organized in the form of Atolls. These are many small islands more or less close to each other, which form the archipelago of the Maldives. The Capital is Malé, it is located on Malé Attol. This is where you will land at the Malé international airport. Then you will have to book in advance with your hotel a mode of transport to reach your hotel. Either the seaplane, the boat or an internal flight. Most of the time you will reach your hotel with a seaplane, it will probably be included in the package.
The budget to stay in the Maldives for your honeymoon
So yes, the Maldives is a dream destination that has a price! But there are different kinds of hotels for all the budgets. You can totally find luxury hotels at 2000€ per night with overwater villas; but also much more affordable hotels around 200€ per night. We stayed at the Sun Island resort a few years ago, that was in these prices and we really loved the island. We also stayed at luxury hotels such as Soneva Sushi, the Mövenpick and the Fushifaru and also had an amazing experience.
For flights, accommodation and activities for 10 days, you can manage to make a pack around 5000 USD for two people. By the way, if you are planning your trip to the Maldives, feel free to also read our post about the best hotels and activities in the Maldives.
For the price of a flight from the USA to the Maldives, it will be around 900 USD per person If you book at least 4 months in advance and are flexible on the dates. We usually try to book at least 2 months in advance, but the easier you book, the best deals you’ll find!

Where to stay in the Maldives for your honeymoon?
There are more than 100 hotels in the Maldives and most of them are ‘hotels islands’. This means that almost every hotel is the only one on the island. So, you need to choose carefully your resort because if you book your whole stay at the same hotel you will only be able to visit its island.
How to choose your hotel
These islands are really small you can make a tour by bike in one hour maximum. So, you need to choose your honeymoon hotel with several criteria. First of all, the resort in itself : what kind of hotel are you looking for? A luxury hotel or an affordable one ? What kind of accommodation are you looking for? A beach villa, an overwater villa ?
Also, you need to choose your hotel accordingly to the activities you are willing to do. Make researches to see how the island is. What activities you can do there? For example some islands are bigger than others. And some of them has better diving / snorkeling spots than others. Also, if you are looking for spa treatments, good restaurants or even water activities; you need to make sure the hotel you have chosen is suiting your needs!

Bike around the island
You need to know that in the Maldives, there are no cars or scooters on the islands. They are really into environment protection which is amazing. They will let you borrow a bike to be able to get around the island.
Also, you will easily find beautiful and empty beaches. Just bike around the island and you will find empty paradise beaches! You can even reach sandbanks on certain islands. It’s the case for Soneva Fushi and Sun island that has a beautiful sandbank close to the hotel.
Watersports
Some of the hotels also have several water activities. You can borrow stand-up paddle, kayaks and windsurf for free. For the motorized water sports, you can usually rent a jet-ski with a supplement. We had a transparent kayak and it was super fun to see fishes through the kayak!
Luxury Spa
Usually, every luxury hotel in the Maldives has a Spa. It is perfect to have a relaxing duo spa treatment, a massage, or a facial treatment! It’s absolutely amazing to relax and spend time with your loved one! They also proposed sometimes floating breakfast like in Bali!
Enjoy your villa
You can, of course, enjoy your beautiful villa, stay by the pool or relax on your terrace! All the overwater villas have direct access and view on the ocean lagoon. And seriously, nothing can beat to wake up to this view and sleeping on the water! It’s an unforgettable experience.
