If it’s not already done, you should definitely visit Mallorca! Especially if you are based in Europe, you should really put this place on your list. This Spanish island is one of the three Balearic islands : there is Mallorca, Minorca and Ibiza. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, these islands are absolutely gorgeous.
It’s well known for its beautiful beaches, sheltered coves, limestone mountains and Roman and Moorish remains. Capital Palma has nightlife, the Moorish Almudaina royal palace and 13th-century Santa María Cathedral. Stone-built villages include Pollença, with its art galleries and music festival, and hillside Fornalutx, surrounded by citrus plantations.
If you like the Mediterranean weather and way of life, you will love these islands. If you are ready for this Mallorca travel guide, let’s start! 😉

When is the best time to visit Mallorca?
The best time to travel to Mallorca is from June to September, much like all European destinations. However, it is also possible to go there in May. It will be a little cooler but with its average 24°C, the month of May remains super pleasant.
In general, between June and September, you will have temperatures of 28°C to 32°C and water around 25°C. It will be necessary to favor the month of June to September because it is the period which precedes a large tourist influx and it will be much more pleasant at the beginning of the season.
As for July and August, we really advise against it. These are very touristy months and paradise can quickly become a nightmare. The peak is really May or June.
Just before getting into the var of the subject, we let you watch our little vlog of Mallorca which retraces our trip well! You will find useful information written for each spot 😉
How to get around in Mallorca
Car rental in Mallorca is a big deal! Between incredible tips and online scams, we can easily get lost. No worries, we’ve been there and we’ll tell you everything about our experience.
It all starts with car rental comparators that seduce you with unbeatable prices online right? We are talking about a car rental at 10€ per day. Personally, we have never been fan of online reservations because when you get there, there are always unexpected costs added!
In short, looking at the reviews on the internet, it does not make you really to book online. There are many stories who mention a debit and credit card problem, problems during the inventory… And even agencies that invoice sums for impacts considered insignificant at the beginning but at the end of the stay which pose problems. Basically, it was a bit complicated to know. To have an emergency door, we looked on rental sites between individuals, in particular on Getaround. The prices were still very high compared to the quality of the vehicles offered.
The best car rental in Mallorca
Finally we stopped the search and we rented a car directly at Mallorca airport. We come across all the companies and during our trip to Jordan, we went through Goldcar. We said why not. Just a few minutes of waiting and the guy tells us 350€ for an Opel Corsa without deductible with full all-risk insurance for 7 days. Needless to say, we didn’t hear for long! Just 10min to do the steps, 10min to access the parking lot where there are cars and we were already on the roads of Mallorca! In short, we highly recommend them (this is not a collaboration!).
What are the best beaches in Mallorca?
El Calo des Moro in Southern Mallorca
This is probably the most beautiful beach in Mallorca – or at least the most beautiful beach I saw while in Mallorca! A private foundation owns and cares for this beach, so it’s beautifully maintained and you won’t see any hotels or beach bars here it’s wild. You will have to climb down a lot of rocks to get here, but I think the extra effort to get here makes it even more special.
Cala Deia
The famous Cala Deia is really a must see in Mallorca! The beach is beautiful in itself but there is also the lovely Deia village near there. You can plan to visit the Cala in the morning and end up in the village for a lunch ! Also, you will find the famous restaurant with an amazing view on the Sea.
Cala Mesquida Beach in Northeastern Mallorca
This is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. I love that the beach is very long, it stretches 300 meters and the water is shallow pretty far out.
Sa Calobra Beach in Western Mallorca
You should also drive to the Sa Calobra beach which with its breathtaking drops and many hairpins was probably the highlight of visiting Sa Calobra, but Sa Calobra beach was also beautiful.
Cala Pi Beach in Southern Mallorca
Cala Pi (Playa de Cala Pi on Google maps) was one of the prettier but also one of the busier beaches. But I loved its setting in between tall cliffs and it just had a really nice vibe. There is also a beach shack where you can get drinks and snacks.
Cala Bellavista
You will not believe us but we found this Cala by chance! Come on, let me tell you. It is the last day of our trip and we are looking on the GPS for a Cala not too far from the hotel and rather pretty. To be able to enjoy our last morning. And there? We come across this banger! A real gem unknown to tourists. You will only see locals people! You’ll thank us later 😇
Cala Llombards
Cala Lombards is also one of my favorites. It has so much charm! The water is crystal clear, the Cala is surrounded by rock formations and guess what? There are lovely traditional small houses in the Cala.
Serra de Tramontana : The mountains of Mallorca
If you are going to travel to Majorca, then you shouldn’t miss this superb and wild side of the island. This is one of the highlights of our trip! The Serra de Tramuntana is the main mountainous massif of Mallorca which is located in the northwest of the island. There are a multitude of hikes, each as beautiful as the next, allowing access to viewpoints or even lakes. We took this superb road to access the Cala de Sa Calobra. At one point we even went through a Canyon, it was magnificent.
Unfortunately, we did not have time to do a real hike to a lake, but for mountain and hiking lovers, you will be happy!
However, if you have planned to go to Sa Calobra and Torrent de Pareis, you will be able to admire the view of the mountains. We went there early in the morning and we were amazed. The light on the mountain ranges, with the greenery and the goats, it was just beautiful. If you have planned to travel to Mallorca, make sure to add this place to your list!
The old villages to visit in Mallorca
Deia village
Deia is THE village to see during your trip to Mallorca. This village located in the northwest of the island just next to Cala Deia is unmissable. Already, because of its beauty and its unique charm. But also there is a warm atmosphere during the high season. Its restaurants and bars are also very nice.
Valdemossa village
The village of Valdemossa is also really worth seeing. A little in the same style but still quite different. Located just 18km from Palma, it is a must on your trip to Mallorca. This small village perched in the mountains, with cobbled streets will make you fall in love!
Visit the city of Palma de Mallorca
If you want to visit Palma de Mallorca, the capital of this small island, it can be done in 1 or 2 days. It will depend on the time you have there and also if you are more city or nature. We visited the island in half a day because we are more about beaches, hikes and lovely small villages, but there is plenty to do in Palma!
It is rather pleasant to walk in the city and the lively little streets where bars and restaurants with a Spanish atmosphere follow one another. At the bend of a street corner, you will be able to buy an ice cream and start heading towards the most emblematic place of Palma, the Cathedral of Palma. Opposite the cathedral, the Royal Palace of the Almudaina is to be seen. With an Arab look, this building recalls the different periods when several peoples succeeded each other.
Of course, Palma is much more than what we have just seen, but in half a day, this is what you will be able to see of the city. If you love cities, plan to stay a little longer.
Visit Mallorca : the best hotels to stay at
The island is relatively small in the sense that no matter where you are, you will be able to access all parts of the island in a maximum of 2 hours. However, there are areas that are more accommodating than others. For example, we stayed near Palma, in S’Arenal which I think is a great place to visit the island. You have access to highways at your fingertips and all parts of the island are easily accessible. On the other hand, S’Arenal is not the sexiest place on the island, it will really be just for sleeping. In addition, prices are lower in this area than elsewhere.
Hotel Can Furios
We stayed two nights at the Can Furios hotel in the north of the island of Mallorca and we loved it. This hotel is really superb. Located near Sa Calobra and the mountain ranges, it is ideal for disconnecting and getting closer to nature. The hotel itself is stunning, stone ancient walls, bougainvillea trees, cactus, even typical minimalist and chic decoration. Lots of flowers, plants, a swimming pool that blends into the decor. And clean, spacious rooms. You will love the attentions and the kindness of the staff.
We really felt like at home. We were very well received. There is a super warm welcome and service during all the stay. Combined with the charm of the hotel and the quality of the services… We can say that it is excellent value for money. We really recommend this hotel!
Hotel Gracia Palma
We stayed at Hotel Gracia near Palma for our entire stay. It takes about 70€ to 80€ per night with breakfast included (buffet) at the end of August, beginning of September.
The rooms are very correct, clean and spacious with a beautiful view of the sea. The bathrooms are really good. You have a safe in the room which is quite large since in terms of length, it is large enough to put a laptop. The hotel is quiet despite some booking reviews but it may also depend on the period you go there.
The breakfast is a buffet and it is very good. There’s something for everyone, sweet, savory… There’s fresh fruit, juices… Honestly, we advise you to take the breakfast option, so you’ll have peace of mind. In terms of location, the only downside is finding a place to park your car. The area remains very touristy so it is during certain hours, it is difficult to find a place.
Ready to visit Mallorca?
We hope this complete travel guide will help you to plan your trip and visit Mallorca! If you have questions let us know in the comments 😉
Here is a small list of tips and tricks to know before visiting Mallorca! It is better to go there in June or September to avoid the tourist period and to have more advantageous rates. But June is really better for not having the pollution from the boats all season long. We advise you to rent a car on site to avoid unpleasant surprises from internet offers. Be at the calas before 8:00 a.m. to easily find a place to park and enjoy the place before the tourist influx! Do not forget to take water and something to eat to avoid having to leave the cala and no longer be able to park! And watch out for speed cameras, there are quite a few around the island!
Have a good trip to Mallorca friends, you will love this beautiful Balearic island 😉
