The beautiful Provence in France

Hello everyone! Today let’s talk about our road trip in the south of France and the beauty of Provence! As you know we are living in Bordeaux (southwest of France), so we are not really far from Provence. We are going there every year because we really love the french riviera and all the small villages there: Menton, St Tropez, Villefranche, Valensole or the Gorges du Verdon.

This is not so far from our home. This summer we have decided to do a little road trip with J-e and my little sister! We have been from Bordeaux to St Tropez and we stopped by Valensole to see the beautiful lavender fields! Provence is amazing and there are many beautiful places to explore!  If you are planning to go there you will find here all our tips and tricks!

What is the best season to visit Provence?

The best season to come to Provence is the high season, between May and September. You should avoid going there during July/August as it is really crowded. Also, if you are coming by car you will be stuck in the traffic during hours. I think the best time to get there is in June or September.

Every corner there is just so so pretty. The buildings are orange, pink or yellow. There are so many cute and traditional Mediterranean restaurants, and beautiful beaches.

On the first morning we woke up early to walk in the cute streets of St Tropez and avoid the crowd. There are many people at this time (july/august) as it’s the best time of the year to get there. The city is really small so it’s not long to explore it but there are many hidden gems! So you have toget lost in the little streets and you will find cute spots! For the lunch we stopped by a cute typical restaurant and we ate pizzas (my fave meal haha). After that, we went to a beautiful beach called l‘Escalet. The water is amazing but there are always so many people. The night we went to our fave restaurant to celebrate J-e birthday for his 25 years! We’ve spent an amazing night.

The day after, it was the final of the world cup so we went to our fave beach club the Nioulargo on the Pampelone beach to watch the match on a giant screen. When we won the ambiance was crazy! We stayed there until the night to dance and celebrate this! The day after we walked in St Tropez again and we ate in a lovely restaurant on the heights. After these amazing days we got back and we decided to stop by Valensole!

How to get there?

If you come to St Tropez by plane you need to go to Toulon or Nice, they are the closest airports. After you can take a taxi or the train. You can also rent a car. If you can come by car it’s easier, you can come directly to St Tropez directly. Be careful the price is really high for parking.

Where to stay?

There are many beautiful hotels in the heart of St Tropez. You can also find a cute Airbnb or small hotels around St Tropez. This is what we have done.

What are the most beautiful spots?

For me, the most beautiful beaches are l’Escalet, Cap taillat and Pampelone beach. For the last one you, there are many cool beach clubs. The others beaches are free. But all are crowded in summer haha.

After 2 hours driving from St Tropez we arrived at the plateau de Valensole. This place is absolutely incredible. After seeing many beautiful photos of the lavender fields on Instagram I wanted to go there so badly! And we finally made it to Valensole! This place is even more beautiful in reality. You won’t be disappointed. But there are so many tourists coming for the sunset to take pictures! That’s crazy.

There are several huge lavender fields next to the sunflowers fields. We had a picnic in the fields and after that, we have waited for the sunset. It was a magical moment. If you come there, beware of the bees, there are so many ones in the fields. But if you don’t approach them, there will be no problem! Also, we didn’t have the time to visit the city of Valensole but it looks beautiful. If you are visiting Valensole be sure to add this on your list!

Is it free to visit the Plateau of Valensole?

Yes, it is totally free! You can just park your car in front of the field and come to take photos. But remember that these Lavander fields are belonging to small producers. Please respect the fields, don’t take lavenders and don’t touch it.

How to get there?

If you come by plane you need to go to Marseille first. After that, maybe renting a car is the best option to get there because a taxi would be too expensive. You can rent a car at the airport. If you come by car you can drive directly to Valensole. You can park for free.

Where to stay?

If you want to stay around Valensole you can find a cute airbnb or B&B. I think the best is to go back to Marseille to stay and also visit the city. If you also want to visit a city near Valensole like St Tropez you can stay there and come to Valensole just for the sunset.

What places to visit?

Of course you need to visit the lavender and sunflower fields but also the city of Valensole!

I hope this post will be helpful to you! Comment if you are planning to visit St Tropez or Valensole! If you like traveling in France, you can find all our trips in France here! And stay tuned on Instagram for my next trip to Rome in a few days!
