How to save money to travel? This question has been asked so many times to me, so I decided to make a post for you! I know that traveling can be really expensive and difficult to afford. But if you follow these tips, I promise you can really save money and travel more!

Before becoming travel bloggers and content creators, we saved a lot of money to start traveling. And this is the same thing for every travel blogger or content creator. We have done many sacrifices to start traveling and we made travel a priority in our life. It’s a choice because you can not go shopping every weekend, and spend money on bars and nightclubs and find money to travel

But if you loves travel as much as su and you really want to travel more, I promise that it’s possible! In this post I will give you many tips and tricks to help you to save money to travel! Read on 😉

How to save money to travel?

1. Don’t spend your money on things you don’t need!

Firstly, don’t spend your money on things you don’t really need. I think this is the most important thing you need to focus on if you want to save money and travel more. If traveling is your passion, make it a priority! Unless you are millionaire you can not be going to the restaurant every day, hang out every night, buy Chanel bags and also travel!

You can’t spend money on everything, so you have to choose between traveling and actually everything else! So if really want to save money and travel more, don’t spend your money on expensive bags, shoes, makeup, restaurants, parties, nightclubs (that can be a real source of impoverishment! lol), cars, home furniture and so on. The list is long!

2. Sell all the things you don’t need anymore!

Secondly, take a minute and start thinking about what you really need at your home and what you could sell. You have too many clothes in your closet that you don’t wear anymore? Too many shoes? gear that you don’t use anymore? sell it! Someone will be happy to have it and you can save money. There are multiples platforms online to sell your stuff.

Before we started to travel we sold everything we didn’t needed anymore, clothes, shoes, bags, furnitures. Everything that could possibly bring money to travel.

3. Organize your trips in advance

This tip can really help you to save money. When you book your plane tickets and hotels in advance the prices are usually lower. Planes and hotels are managed by the yield management, so more places are available, less the price will be expensive. You should book your trip at least 4 weeks in advance so you can save money.

This is why you should start thinking in advance of your next tips. Usually we try to book our flights at least 3 or 4 weeks in advance.

4. Be flexible on the dates

If you are flexible on the dates, you can save a lot! I don’t know if you have noticed it, but when you’re searching for a flight for a particular day, sometimes you can see flights for the day after for half the price! And yes, unfortunately, some days are cheaper than others. Usually it is cheaper to leave and go back on Tuesday then on Saturday or Sunday. Try to choose days that are not too busy.

But it really depends. So the more flexible you are the best rates you will find! You just have to compare the prices and choose the best day. I can advise you to search on Skyscanner which is an amazing price comparator online.

5. Travel during low season

If you can, try to travel in the low or middle season, it will be less expensive and there will be fewer tourists! Of course, check the weather before and don’t travel to Asian countries during the wet season or Europe in winter.

But for example, you should avoid going to Thailand in January/February because it is the high season. You can go there in March/April. This is what we have done last year. The weather was really nice and it was less touristy. Also, you should avoid visiting Bali during July/August but more in June or September. You can search for all the best times to visit a destination on the Lonely planet.

6. Compare, compare and compare!

Some destinations are more expensive than others. It also depends on where you are based and the distance you have to fly to. But if you take time to make a lot of research you will find a hotel/Airbnb that fits your budget. If you can’t find a hotel, search for an apartment. Also, if your current airline company is too expensive, don’t be afraid to try another one!

We often compare hotels on Bookings and apartments on Airbnb. And we book the best deals we find, sometimes they are better at last minute !

7 Use a VNP

Ok this one is one of the best tips I can give you guys to save money and travel more ! With a VPN you will be able to change your location of your mobile or computer. The prices of the flights are depending on the location where you are booking the flights. You can try to enter a country with a low like India for example.

Also, you should avoid booking a flight with a mobile, it will usually be more expensive because it is for people that are busy and are booking quickly a flight. Always book with a computer and change your localisation on the VPN ! Also, don’t book immediately, try again at different hours to find the best deals 😉

8. Change your way of transport!

If the flights are still too expensive, think about taking a train, renting a car or taking a boat. Always think that you have several possibilities. Even if some of them take more time, be patient, take books with you !

Last year we have done a road trip in Italy with Interrail and it was an amazing experience!

9. Travel close to your country!

Most of the time we want to go far to discover new cultures, new landscapes, live a unique experience… But sometimes the closest countries can be so unique and epic! For example, for the Frenchies, we can visit amazing and very different countries close to France. We can go to Morocco, Italy, Greece, Baleares, Switzerland Turkey or Jordan in the low season with a small budget!

10. Rent your apartment when you’re not at home

When you are not at home, you can rent your apartment on Airbnb or other platforms. It is a good way to save money while traveling and finance your trips. Also, if you have a second room, you can rent it while you are at home. It’s a good way to earn money and meet people from all over the world!

So you want to travel more?

If you make travel a priority in your life, I promise you will travel more! It really is a matter of priority. You can always travel if you really want it and if you are ready to make some concessions!
